Today marks the return of the biggest fixture in Scottish football. Celtic versus Rangers. It's the first time the Glasgow Giants have met in a competitive top-flight game for four years. Ever since Rangers were booted out of the SPL in 2012, the place has never quite been the same as Celtic stormed to four consecutive titles.
It's no coincidence that the Bhoys were also left in a considerably weaker position by their rivals demise. Celtic ended their three year absence from the UEFA Champions League only last month by beating Israeli champions Hapoel Be’er Sheva in a playoff. It now means that they face the mouth watering prospect of Barcelona, Guardiola’s Man City and German side Borussia Monchengladbach in the Group Stage. No one will be expecting them to progress, but in many ways, progress in itself is simply qualifying.
Rangers fans will be hard-pressed to remember such lofty heights for their team. It was the 2010/11 season when they last tasted European football’s elite, however signs of improvement under manager Mark Warburton offer hope to their fan base that the wait may be over sooner rather than later.
At Football Shirt Memory, we are proud to offer you one of the rarest pieces of kit we hold. The 2009/10 Champions League campaign for Rangers may have been short lived, however supporters of the Ibrox outfit will need no reminders as to who led the line for them that season. Northern Irish international Kyle Lafferty is no stranger to scoring against Celtic as well, and you can buy his Carling-sponsored official shirt with CL + UEFA respect badges included for only £59.99.
We also anticipate to have shortly with us a 125th anniversary Celtic player edition shirt, from the 2012/13 season. We shall keep you updated on proceedings.
As for the match tomorrow, we expect a home win for Celtic. Scott Brown to oust Joey Barton. Expect some titanic battles out there! What are your predictions for the game?!
